Choose a passage in the context of the service
If the family wants a Bible reading, begin with the person leading the ceremony. A passage may have significance within a particular church tradition or a personal connection to the person being remembered. Read more than a short search-result excerpt before deciding. The surrounding passage may change how a familiar line is understood. This guide does not prescribe a reading or offer theological advice. Its purpose is to help you place an approved selection clearly in a printed program without losing the reference, version, or connection to the actual ceremony.
Record the reference before formatting the words
Keep a source note containing the book, chapter, verse range, translation, and the exact text approved for use. A reference such as “Psalm 23” identifies a passage, but different translations use different wording. If a reader practices one version while the program prints another, guests can be distracted by the mismatch. Do not combine sentences from several versions to make them fit. If the leader has supplied a service sheet, use it as the agreed reference and ask about any change rather than silently correcting what seems unfamiliar.
Decide whether a reference is enough
A program can list “Scripture reading — [reference] — [reader]” without reproducing the passage. That may be the clearest option when the reading is spoken and guests do not need the full text. Printing an entire passage can be useful when the family wants it as part of the keepsake or when people will read together. In that case, ask the relevant publisher or church contact about reproduction conditions for the specific translation. Do not assume every Bible translation has identical permissions. Make the page support the reader
Use a clear heading and keep the passage separate from the person's life story. Preserve meaningful paragraph divisions and avoid shrinking the text until it becomes difficult to read. If a reading continues to another page, inspect the break and consider whether a separate reading sheet would work better. Write the reader's name consistently with the rest of the program. For a bilingual service, have both the language and layout reviewed by someone who understands the text. A visually balanced page is not enough if the translation or reference is incorrect.
Use an approved selection in the local editor
Enter the reading title or reference as one item in Quiet Folio's service-order field.
